FSU Lineman Forgets to Play

Did the FSU lineman fall asleep during the Florida game on November 28th? Watch him as he never moves, even after the tackle is complete and the play is over! So crazy! I feel bad for the guy. How embarrassing! One thing he’ll never live down with his close friends and family. At least he got his ESPN 15-minutes!

Interracial Couple = No Marriage License in Louisiana

A story broke nationwide in mid-October involving an interracial couple in Louisiana, who were denied a marriage license due to their races. I have to rant about this briefly. It is 2009 for Pete’s sake. I know Louisiana is the Deep South and has many ‘backward’ areas, but this man (Keith Bardwell) is a justice of the peace. Bardwell claims that in his experience, interracial couples do not last long. I didn’t realize Tangipahoa Parish was the polling station of America, where all instances are on trend. Please note that his claim only identifies interracial couples as black and white. Do not even get me started on that one! Bardwell states that neither the white nor black communities accept the children from these relationships as their own. I feel so strongly about this story, because I am a product of an interracial couple (black and white). No, my parents are no longer together (for many reasons), but my mother ended up marrying her high-school sweetheart (who happens to be Hispanic) and have been happily married for over 15 years. So I say “no” to you Mr. Bardwell and your claims that these relationships are doomed to fail. You live a small, rural area in the South and cannot base your findings on such a remote area. If you really care to dive into what relationships work and don’t work, you would realize all relationships have a 50/50 chance at making it, no matter the race.

Of course, he denies that he is racist in any way. Is this not the definition of racist?? Thanks for listening.

Caskets?? Really Walmart?

I read a few weeks ago that Walmart will now sell caskets online at a discount rate. I cannot imagine buying the final resting place for a loved one from an online source. I feel that funeral arrangements, etc are a very personal decision and should be addressed in person, like any major purchase in ones life. How would you feel if your casket was bought online? Maybe I’m overreacting. Thoughts?

Here’s a feel good story for all you out there. An Illinois woman’s fiance canceled their wedding the week prior. By that time, it was nonrefundable (I promise there is a feel good moment in here). The woman, Ms. Harris, then looked across the street and saw a retirement community and decided on the spot that she would keep the reception/party going and instead invite the residents from across the street. They all had a wonderful time and were very thankful for the generous woman’s donation. I commend Harris for her generosity in such a time in her life. Read the full story HERE.
